oh! so THAT's what it is (!!!???)

for many of us, I'm sad to report
      love is not lilac
  and love is not rose
     but something twisted
  and grotesque that grows despite
      the darkness
    something hardy,
     not hearty
  existing much
  to everyone's amazement
