On Seeing C. and S., Asleep
In deep, deep, most blessed sleep
    Young bodies twine;
    A lovers heap --

So close they lie, as if to keep
    This hour for their own.

Gently wrapped in his embrace
    (As though ordained
    by heaven's grace)
Her golden hair across his face,
    Their dreams are worlds unknown.

Time is still for she and he;
    This moment should
    forever be --

But in the window I can see
    A swiftly setting moon.

Through the eve, they breathe as one
    and wish this night
    be never done

I beg of thee, oh morning sun --
    Why must thou come so soon?
