You say you don't know who you are anymore Everytime you look in the mirror, it isn't you that you see It's someone else reflected there, looking back at you And you swear that it has to be a trick, a mirage, a mistake For your face isn't one that you recognize You've become a stranger to yourself... Dreams lost, flushed down the drain of impatience You never hold on to what you should, to what you need Whatever feels good to you, whatever looks good to the world That's all that you carry with you, now And it saddens me to see that you've become so superficial You remind me of a selfish child, always wanting something Perhaps wanting just to want, and gaining just to gain But, feeling empty all the while... I used to pity you, can you imagine that? Once upon a time, you warrented my compassion A long time ago, you were worthy of my love But, I don't give to you so easily anymore Sure, you may look like the man I knew But, just as you don't who you are anymore Just as you've become a stranger to yourself You've become a stranger to me, as well And even though I may recognize your face I don't recoginze what lies beneath it... |
