This talk of birds and butterflies and setting them all free appeals to many philosophers nonsensical to me I ponder upon this fancy phrase which speaks of their return it sounds more like a wandering jew than a syncopated fern For why would you have to set them free unless they were trapped in jail or caged in a prison of iniquity and needing release thru bail And if they were happy within your arms why would they want to fly to flit and twit in other yards and other lips to try When they finally return to you all soiled from their travels why would you want to take them back this leaves me fully baffled If you're freed from a ball and chain why would you want to return you'd only chafe and run again for the freedom that you yearn Wings and things and birds of flight have no real permanent home they nest to only hatch their young and then they leave to roam With butterflies there's no surprise they spend their time in air they linger for a sweet respite poor subjects to compare . |
