the tired asphalt spills out behind me as the little car cuts its way through the muted evening i'm on my way to your place, and i've been thinking... we've come so far from the confused state in which we began: intimate strangers in a tangle of limbs and emotions raw, new and unsure... when did it become so familiar? when did your sleeping habits become my second nature? when was it okay to borrow your sweatshirts with out asking? it srikes me like a match in the dark how wonderful you are you're so patient with me, so forgiving of my sarcasm, so gentle, so sweet... and it's become familiar as my own skin to love you and to be loved i glance at my diamond, sparkling on my hand where I grip the steering wheel, and i think to myself "I will never get used to that" and smile a girlish smile the sky bleeds from grey to black and clouds collect for slumber |
