The following poem is written in a style inspired by my namesake Dylan Thomas (1914-1953). He was born in Wales, where I come from and died in the States where many of you hail from. If you ever visit Laugharne in South Wales you can still see the small boat house perched on a cliff where he found the solitude to write his poetry. I Spring-Loved You I spring-loved you by dolphin-dancing shore. Seagull-wheeling words tossed to and fro As wish-waves rose and crashed and rose again between us. Golden-sanded was the virgin path of love: Footprints and fingers deeply intertwined. I summer-loved you in sun-caressing hollows - Green and sap-filled love long days. Blossom wedding-white bedecked you; Birdsong, brooksong playing for us As we close-walked wooded aisles. I autumn-loved you in ripe orchards Child-laughing, fruit-heavy, lip-stained days Of nuts and berries and golden cornfields. Twilight embracing harvest moon On our warm-wending homeward, hearthward way. I winter-love you on snow-shining hilltops. Neath leaf-free diamond-decked trees, Peacefilled, love-full, gentle-setting sun. See far below us seashore, pastures, orchards; Hear high above us skylark's heavenward song. |
