Long summer eves, of long ago, You held my hand and wouldn't let me go. Through meadows we danced, and sat under old trees, You wanted me then, just wanted to please. Now, in those meadows I sit alone, On long summer evenings, quite near your home. I try to catch a glimpse, or share a stare, But nothing can work as you're no longer there. Yet once or twice, you're on my turf, You catch a glimpse when you think my back is turned. And then I question, whether the end came when you said, Because it didn't for me, did it in Your head? |
