I watch the lightening Race across the sky, I see it burn a violet trail, Trying vainly to find the thunder's Absent touch-- But there's no sound. There is no wind tonight, Isn't that the damn strange? Nothing whispers in the dark, Nothing, Nothing, Nothing can be heard, Except my pounding heart. I see the rain start to come down, Rapidly dive bombing Drops of liquid that splash and sing, With silent voices, Like in an old black and white film-- And I keep looking for subtitles. I watch the lightening From behind blurry glass, I search the sky for a sign, But I can't see past this pale Night, And all I can hear is Nothing, Save the quiet reminder Of who I am. I watch and wait, And I can almost taste The coming change, As the lightening races Through all of the corners Of my heart. |
