got our first monsoon of the season this afternoon I heard the rumbles of thunder and saw the distant silver sheets of rain comin' down out west as I walked down the dusty trail and I was thinkin' of rattlesnakes and hungry bears and mountain lions and how you told me not to drive these streets for fifteen minutes after a monsoon I was nervous and breathless and the bikers pissed me off but I kept walking not knowing where the trail led my head filled with all the usual varieties of confusion and frustration I wanted to lose myself and be filled with the desert I thought of my Cherokee blood and how long it's been ignored you see I need the heat I need to dance on fire I like to burn the shade you offer is nice but I have got the veldt in my veins never for me the complacency of the comfort zone the air conditioned nightmare I've put you through enough hell for one eternity but I can't say the flames won't rise again and lick our heels passion is hissing in my ears telling me this is not enough. |
