Cinderella clutched her glass slipper like it was the definition of her womanhood Snow White took her Prince Charming with a girlish giggle And little girls believe this is what love is all about... Women are always beautiful and are adored by men who are unattainably strong in every way So our girls wait to be saved by the boys who NEVER cry The fairytale hides in dreams- we soon find out Cinderella starves herself for the prince who leaves bruises of "love" and girls settle for good enough boys instead of knowing their worth doesn't lie on those sheets We prostitute our bodies for roses, a vacation, maybe a ring all these treasures hoarded like our very own glass slipper Sweaty boys would steal our precious diamonds But we give them FREELY thinking...this is love(sigh) They promise trust-honesty-devotion in return we promise to honor and obey all the while staring at the ceiling throwing in a forced"oh god" so even we believe it ignoring when they cry anothers name in the heat of passion still trying to be beautiful and perfect waiting for our own castle in the sky Like our Mother's before us we commit the unforgivable crime- stuffing our girls head's with lies of love Hoping and praying they will find the fairy tale we could not... Maybe we shouldn't have given up so easily. |
