Last goodbye

I watched you from across the room today
as she held you hand
and caressed your forehead
her eyes sparkled
when she leaned over to kiss you
I could tell that she still loves you

Some would look at you
as just another aged body
without taking the time
to learn
of who you really are

She talks of you
with great pride
reminiscing about the years
of your youth
the struggles you shared
through the many years together

She still sees you as
her hero
her soul mate
the one she thinks she can not live without

But
today she knows
that she will live without you
as difficult as it is
she held your hand for the last time
and kissed you goodbye
