I once had a hurricane in my sails Compass spun like a wheel of fortune Get out, the crew shouted, tack away Find a steady trade wind to fill your sails today I threw the compass and sextant overboard Relying instead on the Northstar in my pants Storm tossed; bruised but unbeaten I sailed on Until your force overcame gravity Like Icarus on a banshee, I flew my boat Straight at the sun, until my sails came apart "I am a God"! I cried to all who could hear As the wreckage plummeted to the surface The pain when I hit the water was unbearable As the warm waters of the ocean swaddled me And the sirens of the deep sang their song I felt I should give up then and there And drift down to the comfort they offered As my crew swam away and saved themselves I made plans to rebuild this boat Clutching the breast of the masthead I wearily kick towards distant shore And wonder why a stiff trade wind Seems like being stuck in the doldrums |
