you sit across me; that laugh, that voice, that smile, those eyes, so sweetly familiar I could barely keep my eyes on the food, as though i only have appetite for a minute or two with you. it's been long and you look nice in red spaghetti straps. whatever happened to the baby tees? you look prettier than last and i'm tongue-tied, though you don't notice, forking shrimp paste i'm allergic to. i'm at a loss for words; you talk about work, about you, about him, her about them; while i wait for you to talk about us. then you laugh at the joke of that person sitting next to you, you feed each other shrimp paste. what was i thinking saying yes, tagging along, sitting there across you and my replacement. |
