Just to be

Just to be a mouse
on that joyous night
of starlight wounder

To peak from behind the foot
of the mule
that traveled the distance

How I wish to have been there
to share that first moment
when new life arrived

A life that would be
given just for me
for me the unworthy

Just to even be
a particle of dust
one small atom
to float and land
upon the forehead
of the new baby

Just to touch
to be in the presence
of such power and might


Oh how I wish
I could have just seen
that first moment
