Grass

They finally put grass on my lawn.
I've been looking down
from my second storey window
for the past 3 months,
wondering when I'd see green,
instead of gravel.
In my excitement,
I ran outside,
straight into the sprinklers.
I was wearing a white shirt.
And to my horror,
I found myself in the midst
of burly construction workers,
snickering in my direction.
It was cold.
You get it.
So I gave a little wave,
a little curtsey,
and received an applause
from the sweaty men,
hardened with time
and asphalt.
And I smiled.
Because this is something
that you would find amusing.
