The world sees me as cool and calm, competent and collected, but they don't see me when you walk through my door. Sometimes I sit down fast before my knees buckle or I lean against the wall and catch my breath. You do that to me, though I never intended to let you in. Something about the way you look at me, the light that passes over your face when you see me, the calm feeling of warmth that radiates through me when you hold me, it pulls at my heartstrings. I couldn't help but love you. You've won from me a prize I didn't think I had to give, my heart, and you can wear it around your neck like the Tin Woodsman if you like, as long as you always keep it safe and ticking. |
