The living room was alive with the Sound of Music last night, remastered on ABC TV. I was lost in it, rocketed back to when I was ten years old and Captain Von Trapp was the most dashing, romantic figure on my radar. I wanted to be Maria I wanted a calling, to leave a convent for love to race around the hills of Austria with seven children, and maybe add a couple more. Most of all I wanted a man who could sing "Edelweiss" sweetly enough to break my heart. So I asked you to try it, this morning in the shower and you belted it out like a Broadway star; so i said I'd call you Captain and you called me the girl who will never be a nun. |
